Anyone that follows the international news will have seen that Sri Lanka is going through some very difficult times at the moment. The country is facing power cuts, and food, fuel and other essential items such as\u00a0medicines are in increasingly short supply. There are multiple compounding factors that have caused this situation, which of course includes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
In spite of the gravity of the situation, our production sites are all continuing to operate at full capacity. This is due in part to the Sri Lankan government\u2019s support of companies that export from Sri Lanka, and Biogrow is a well-established and respected company that has created many jobs over the years and has also supported local community and school projects. Our director in Sri Lanka Nicolas Bourhis explained \u201cWe have a very close-knit and dedicated team of managers and suppliers, who really pull together when production needs to go up a gear. This is without a doubt one of our great strengths\u201d.<\/p>\n
Nishantha Hewage, Biogrow Sri Lanka\u2019s operations manager added \u201cour objective is to put everything in place to continue exporting, and so far, we\u2019ve managed to overcome any obstacles that have appeared in front of us. It\u2019s testament to our staff\u2019s loyalty and hard work that all our facilities are continuing to operate normally\u201d.<\/p>\n
Another factor that enables us to continue producing and exporting is the rural location of our production sites. In these areas there is already a very strong community spirit, transport is organized for our workers and food is still grown locally where they live, so they are less affected by the food and fuel shortages than in the cities and towns.<\/p>\n
Our strategy moving forward is to adapt to whatever the current circumstances are, so that we can produce as early as possible and guarantee our customer deliveries. This gives our customers peace of mind that everything is being taken care of from the moment their order is passed to the substrates being delivered to the doors of their greenhouse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
